The kaleidoscope and base are in excellent overall condition with just very minor wear to the surface but no dents, no cracks, no chips, or any major issues whatsoever. The base itself measures about 4” inches on each side and is carved with faceted, angled sides, another elegant touch by this artist. The opening of the eye piece itself measures about 5/16” inch in diameter. The diameter of the object chamber is about 2” inches. The main barrel measures about 6” inches long and has a diameter of 2.4” inches. This is a dry-celled chamber with lamp-worked glass inside the object chamber.Īs it turns, you hear the delicate clink and tumble of glass. We see colorful and unique displays as you turn the optic chamber. It has a wonderful classic design into an interior image with exquisitely precise mirror system, creating a six-point star view on the left eye view and a detailed three-mirror repeating cluster view on the right side. It is signed with his initials GMS carved on the top of the eye piece. I believe there is maple wood on the main barrel with the lighter tone and perhaps bubinga and walnut. This stunning handheld kaleidoscope is made with high quality wood veneers. These kaleidoscopes were the pinnacle of his artwork of the time and now timeless masterpieces of art very difficult to come across.
